Why does a cabinet finish wear down even after repainting?

Cabinet coatings wear when the surface, coating choice, or daily use does not match the job. Thomas J. Strong cleaning, careful prep, and the right topcoat all affect how the new finish handles regular opening, closing, and wiping.

Cabinet Painting in Bellevue for focused finish updates

Cabinet painting suits kitchens, bathrooms, offices, and other spaces where the cabinet layout still works but the finish no longer fits. The job centers on doors, drawer fronts, exposed sides, boxes, trim, and any repairs included in the agreement.

The main decision is whether the existing parts need adjustment, repair, refacing, or replacement. We inspect the surfaces and discuss the desired color, sheen, coating type, and finish level before setting the work scope. This focus makes the page useful for buyers comparing a finish update with broader cabinet changes.

Homes and commercial properties can have different access needs. Our consultation covers the room layout, nearby surfaces, daily use, and protection plan before work begins.

  • Check cabinet doors, drawer fronts, boxes, edges, and exposed sides.
  • Confirm whether damaged parts need repair, refacing, adjustment, or replacement.
  • Choose a coating approach that fits the cabinet material and expected use.
  • Protect floors, counters, walls, and nearby fixtures before painting.
  • Review the finished work with the lead paint crew member.

How we complete cabinet painting

1

Discuss the cabinet layout

We meet in the property to review cabinet goals, preferences, doors, drawer fronts, boxes, millwork, and access needs.

2

Set the repair and coating scope

We identify surface repairs, refacing needs, coating choices, finish preferences, and protection requirements before developing the work agreement.

3

Prepare parts and nearby surfaces

Our crew prepares the cabinet surfaces and protects floors, counters, walls, fixtures, and other nearby areas with suitable coverings.

4

Apply and review the finish

We paint the agreed cabinet parts, complete cleanup, and review the finished work during a walkthrough with the lead paint crew member.

How we approach cabinet finish decisions

Match the coating to the cabinet

The cabinet material and existing finish guide the coating choice. This service is the wrong fit when the cabinet structure needs major rebuilding beyond the agreed painting or refacing scope.

Separate parts from repairs

Doors, drawer fronts, boxes, and trim may need different preparation. We identify those needs before the agreement so the scope stays clear.

Keep the room protected

Floor paper, plastic, and carpet coverings help shield nearby surfaces. The protection plan follows the room layout and the areas we need to access.

The scope this service is meant to handle

A typical local property decision starts with cabinets that still fit the room but show worn edges, dated color, or uneven prior paint. We inspect the doors, drawer fronts, boxes, and exposed sides, then separate repair needs from coating work. The consultation sets the scope, protection plan, and finish choice before painting begins.

What a cabinet finish update changes

A new coating changes the color and sheen without requiring a full room renovation.

Careful surface preparation gives the finish a sound base for daily cabinet use.

A matched coating plan helps doors, drawer fronts, and cabinet boxes read as one finish.

Protection and cleanup keep the work area organized while the project moves through preparation and painting.

Commercial property owners can plan cabinet work around the existing layout and agreed access needs.

These guys did an awesome job! They have a well trained team that works closely together to get the job done on time and on budget. They also did a number of other repairs on the interior and exterior ( removed dry rot, repair drywall, etc.) before they could even start the painting. I would highly recommend them!

We had been putting off painting our house because there is never a great time to do so. After we decided to do it, we got 6 bids, some where very low, with low grade products, other very high with outrageous considerations, Jeff and his team came dead in the middle with amazing notes from the first visit, careful workmanship and with top of the line quality product. Scheduling was a breeze with Lorena make it so easy for us even with a busy schedule during the summer. The best experience we've had, we basically did not notice the team was working. They arrived every day super early, left the area pristine, and delivered a great quality outcome in the entire exterior job. We are super happy with the pain, the look and all the recommendation and fixes the team did. We will definitely work with 365Painting Solutions for all of our future painting needs. Thank you for making this experience simple and painless.

Questions about cabinet finishes and project scope

Which cabinet coatings provide a durable finish?

Spray application with a suitable acrylic enamel or urethane paint can provide a durable cabinet finish when the surface is properly prepared. The coating choice depends on the cabinet material, existing finish, daily use, and desired sheen. A clear topcoat may form part of the agreed plan. We discuss these options during the consultation and match the finish to the cabinet parts.

How does cabinet condition change the work plan?

Cabinet condition changes the work plan when doors, edges, boxes, or drawer fronts need repairs before coating. We check the existing finish, surface damage, alignment, and exposed sides during the consultation. Minor preparation can stay within the painting scope, while damaged parts may call for refacing or related carpentry. The agreement identifies those choices before work begins.

What should I move before the crew starts?

Room access improves when personal items, loose decor, and removable items are cleared from cabinet areas. We discuss counters, nearby fixtures, floors, and other surfaces during the in-home meeting. Our crew adds floor paper, plastic, or carpet coverings as needed. The homeowner should also identify items that need special handling before the work agreement is set.

When does refacing fit better than painting?

Refacing fits better when selected cabinet surfaces or parts need a new exterior treatment beyond a painted finish. Cabinet painting suits a structure that remains useful and needs a color or finish update. We inspect the doors, drawer fronts, boxes, and exposed sides before recommending the scope. Related carpentry can address conditions that painting alone does not cover.

Why can cabinet paint look uneven after application?

Uneven cabinet paint often points to surface condition, coating choice, part differences, or preparation needs. We check doors, drawer fronts, edges, boxes, and the existing finish before painting. The application method and finish level must suit the selected coating. A final walkthrough gives the owner and lead paint crew member a chance to review the completed work together.

Who provides cabinet painting for commercial properties?

Thomas J. Painting provides cabinet painting for commercial properties and residential homes. Our team reviews the cabinet layout, access, protection needs, repairs, and finish goals before developing an agreement. Commercial work may involve counters, fixtures, offices, or other active areas, so the consultation defines what needs protection and which cabinet parts belong in the scope.
