About

What fence staining covers for your property

Fence staining refreshes exterior wood while preserving visible grain. The work may include reviewing board condition, preparing the surface, protecting nearby areas, applying stain, and cleaning the site. Old finish, damaged boards, dirt, and uneven absorption can affect the final appearance. Our crew checks these conditions before work begins, so the estimate reflects the actual fence and requested finish. Fence staining isn't a substitute for carpentry repairs. If boards or related woodwork need attention, we discuss the repair work before staining starts.

What Fence Staining Covers

Fence Staining is an exterior wood coating service that adds color and helps protect fence boards.

  • Fence staining differs from fence painting because stain remains tied to the wood grain, while paint forms a more solid film.
  • Fence staining in Issaquah follows the same surface preparation needs as other properties we serve.

What to prepare before fence staining

A few details help us review the fence and scope the work clearly.

  • Share your preferred stain color or finish direction.
  • Point out boards, gates, posts, or sections that concern you.
  • Clear movable items near the fence where practical.
  • Discuss nearby surfaces that need protection during preparation and staining.

These guys did an awesome job! They have a well trained team that works closely together to get the job done on time and on budget. They also did a number of other repairs on the interior and exterior ( removed dry rot, repair drywall, etc.) before they could even start the painting. I would highly recommend them!

We had been putting off painting our house because there is never a great time to do so. After we decided to do it, we got 6 bids, some where very low, with low grade products, other very high with outrageous considerations, Jeff and his team came dead in the middle with amazing notes from the first visit, careful workmanship and with top of the line quality product. Scheduling was a breeze with Lorena make it so easy for us even with a busy schedule during the summer. The best experience we've had, we basically did not notice the team was working. They arrived every day super early, left the area pristine, and delivered a great quality outcome in the entire exterior job. We are super happy with the pain, the look and all the recommendation and fixes the team did. We will definitely work with 365Painting Solutions for all of our future painting needs. Thank you for making this experience simple and painless.

Questions customers ask about fence staining

Who provides fence staining in Issaquah?

Thomas J. Painting provides fence staining for residential and commercial properties in Issaquah. We begin with a free consultation and in-home meeting to review the fence, finish preferences, and preparation needs. Our crew protects nearby work areas, prepares the surface, applies the stain, completes cleanup, and reviews the finished work during a final walkthrough.

What changes the cost of staining a fence?

Fence size, board condition, old finish, repairs, access, and the requested stain affect the project cost. A fence with loose coating or uneven boards may need more preparation before staining. We review those details during the consultation and provide a clearly scoped estimate before work begins, so the agreement reflects the actual job.

Should I pressure wash my fence before staining it?

Pressure washing isn't an automatic requirement for every fence. The wood condition, surface dirt, old coating, and drying needs determine the right preparation. We assess the fence first and choose the preparation needed for the coating. That approach helps avoid forcing water or cleaning methods onto boards that need a different treatment.

Can an old fence still receive stain?

An older fence can receive stain when its boards are sound enough for coating. We look for loose finish, damaged wood, repairs, and uneven absorption before staining. If preparation or carpentry work is needed, we include that scope in the agreement. A free consultation gives us the chance to review the fence in person.

What does a fence staining estimate include?

A fence staining estimate covers the agreed preparation, property protection, staining work, cleanup, and final review. The scope also reflects fence condition, access, requested finish, and related repairs discussed during the consultation. We provide the estimate before work begins, then maintain direct communication through scheduling, preparation, painting, and completion.

How can stain coverage stay even across fence boards?

Even stain coverage starts with a prepared surface and a consistent application approach. Different board age, repairs, dirt, and old finish can change absorption. We inspect those conditions, protect nearby surfaces, and apply the coating across the prepared fence. The final walkthrough helps identify areas that need review before the project closes.

What should I do before the crew stains my fence?

Clear movable items near the fence and share any concerns about boards, gates, posts, or nearby surfaces. We use the consultation to confirm the requested finish and work scope. Our crew then protects the area, prepares the fence, and completes cleanup as part of the agreed service.

Key Points About Fence Staining

  • Fence stain needs a prepared wood surface for even coverage.
  • Old finish and damaged boards can change the work scope.
  • Stain keeps more wood grain visible than exterior paint.
  • Nearby surfaces need protection during preparation and coating.
  • Cleanup and a final walkthrough are part of our project closeout.

Scenarios

When Customers Call Us About Fence Staining

1

Faded Fence Along the Yard

A fence may look gray or uneven after its finish wears away, especially where boards differ in age or condition. Stain choice matters because each board can absorb the coating differently. We review the wood, discuss the desired color, and prepare the surface before developing a scoped estimate for the work.

2

Peeling Finish on Fence Boards

Loose or peeling finish can keep new stain from reaching sound wood. Covering those areas without proper preparation can leave visible patches and early failure. We inspect the coating, identify sections that need attention, and explain the preparation included in the agreement before staining begins.

3

Commercial Fence Appearance Concern

A commercial property may need a cleaner fence appearance without disrupting nearby surfaces or work areas. Access, gates, walls, and pedestrian paths all affect the preparation plan. We meet on site, discuss the property needs, protect nearby areas, and provide a clearly scoped estimate before work starts.
